Saginaw V.A. medical center hosting drug takeback event – MLive.com

The Aleda E. Veteran Affair's Medical Center in Saginaw has been working to combat veteran suicide for over the last decade.
SAGINAW, MI—Looking to responsibly dump some old drugs?
Saginaw’s Aleda E. Lutz V.A. Medical Center, 1500 Weiss Street in Saginaw, will be working to comply with the Dispose Unused Medications and Prescriptions (DUMP) Opioids Act.
The act was signed into law by President Joseph R. Biden on July 29, 2021, and requires the Department of Veterans Affairs to establish designated periods for controlled substance prescriptions to be dropped off at covered VA facilities free of charge, without question.
These drop-off events are open to the public, not just veterans or active duty military.
During the take-back event running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 29, hospital police will be posted in the front lobby of the medical center to direct those who may want to dispose of unwanted medications including controlled substance prescription medications and expired over-the-counter medications.
In a release shared by the VA, the drop-off events will also take in items not appropriate for regular trash disposal like medical sharps/needles, other medical wastes or illegal substances.
The hospital is hosting its designated medication take-back days to coincide with the bi-annual U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) national prescription take-back days, which occur twice annually on a Saturday during the months of April and October.
