OAKLAND — A Texas man was sentenced to two years in federal prison for impersonating an attorney in an alleged scheme to sneak prescription drugs into FCI Dublin, court records show.
Randy Pittman, 41, was sentenced last month by U.S. District Judge Haywood Gilliam. Last July he pleaded guilty to aggravated identity theft, and prosecutors dropped three other federal charges against him.
Pittman remains in Santa Rita Jail in Dublin pending transfer to the Bureau of Prisons.
In October 2021, Pittman was indicted on charges that he impersonated a Florida attorney in order to communicate with a woman incarcerated at FCI Dublin, the Bay Area’s only federal women’s prison. The ruse fooled prison officials at first, but when they discovered Pittman wasn’t an attorney they began to monitor his calls with the woman, the indictment says.

In August 2020, prison officials intercepted a package containing strips of Suboxone, an opiate prescription medication designed to treat opiate addiction, the indictment says.
FCI Dublin is currently the subject of an ongoing, sprawling criminal and civil probe investigating systemic sex abuse of incarcerated women. Thus far, a former warden, a prison chaplain, and several guards have been indicted on sexual assault charges.
Pittman was on supervised release from a federal gun conviction in Texas at the time of the offenses, court records show.
