What is THCp? – Everything You Know About It! – The Island Now

So far, we know that hemp plants contain more than 600 molecules. However, only 140 are known as cannabinoids due to their ability to interact with the human endocannabinoid system(ECS). Among the 140 cannabinoids, CBD and THC are the most important. However, scientists continue research to know more about the plant.
Cannabis offers medical and recreational benefits and more research is necessary to help governments make laws around them.
Furthermore, more cannabis research will help the audience make better decisions and legal authorities keep a healthy balance.
One of the many compounds in the cannabis plants is the recently discovered cannabinoid THCp. THCp (tetrahydrocannabinolic acid) is a naturally occurring phytocannabinoid present in cannabis or hemp plants. It is an analog of THC, the chemical responsible for most cannabis psychoactivity.
Its close structural relation with Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) made researchers think it might have some beneficial or psychoactive properties. Further studies confirmed that THCp is more reactive than the parent THC compound.
Research is ongoing to see how its properties could be harnessed for medical and wellness benefits. Results of this research will also determine if the government will ban THCp or not.
The first time the world heard of THCp was on 30th December 2019. The research, published in Scientific Reports, suggests that the compound binds to the endocannabinoid system’s CB1 and CB2 receptors. Moreover, the news is that  THCp is 30 times more potent than THC.
The first test on the potency of THCp was conducted on rats, and the results showed that the phytocannabinoid has the same effects as THC but is more powerful. It did not conclude how humans will react to THCp, though.
However, the news opened a path for further research, and some cannabis companies also saw this as an opportunity to add a new product to the store of hemp-derived products.
The discovery of THCp was accidental. The research team was originally working on the FM2 strain of the cannabis plant at the Military Chemical Institute. The team performed multiple analytical chemical processes on the cannabis strain.
During the process, they discovered two novel cannabinoids by accident. One of the cannabinoids is tetrahydrocannabiphorol (THCp), and the other is cannabidiphorol (CBDp).
The possible explanation behind the remarkable effectiveness of THCp with CB1 receptors in human ECS is its alkyl chain. Each cannabinoid has a side chain of carbon atoms. This side chain helps it to attach itself to the endocannabinoid receptors in the human body.
A cannabinoid must have at least three carbons in the chain to show some activity toward the ECS receptors. All those compounds in the cannabis plants that do not have a side carbon chain will show no activity and thus are not classified as cannabinoids.
CBD and THC have a tail of carbon atoms attached to them. It helps them interact with the CB1 and CB2 receptors of ECS.
For Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), its five carbons help its effective binding to the CB1 receptor. An overdose of THC can cause euphoria and psychoactive behavior in humans.
The researchers also found a piece of interesting information while studying the structure of the THCp. They concluded that it could show more effectiveness towards the ECS receptors due to the presence of seven carbon atoms in the alkyl chain.
These are, till now, the highest number of carbon atoms in any discovered cannabinoid. The discovery made THCp the most reactive component of the hemp plant that can take the endocannabinoid system activity to another level.
This was confirmed in a test on rats to see the difference in activity. As suspected, the rats showed a boosted reaction towards THCp than THC. A later test on human receptors clarified that the reactiveness increases at least thirty times by using THCp on human ECS.
The discovery has led the world to a new chapter of cannabinoids. More research will reveal the therapeutic benefits of this novel cannabinoid.
The Italian team also discovered cannabidiphorol alongside THCp, but could not continue research on it. The main reason behind abandoning CBDp research at that time was because, naturally, CBD molecules show less reactivity towards the endocannabinoid system.
Although the cannabinoid shows certain health benefits against inflammatory diseases and pain, its activity is less than THC. As a result, the scientists optionally discontinued the research on CBDp to focus on THCp.
THCp and THC are non-identical twins. The former molecule can powerfully change the workings of the body’s endocannabinoid system, while the latter can help positively boost your ECS.
An increased dose of THC can cause a high with minor side effects in the body. The same can happen by taking THCp but with major side effects.
A minor and controlled dosage of THCp may help control pain, inflammation, and anxiety. The compound is also effective for managing chronic pain and insomnia. THCp components are present in chemotherapeutic medicines for breast cancer. However, it can result in higher chances of febrile neutropenia (a severe infection).
At the moment,  there is still very little research on this compound and its associated side effects. However, some users claim to have felt euphoric after taking THCp. Others claim to use it for other purposes. This is ill-advised as such hemp plant derivatives must be used with a prescription.
How Can You Intake THCp?
One way to take THCp is by smoking it. When you smoke it, the THCp will mix with the other cannabinoids and terpenes in the plant material and create what is known as an “entourage effect.”
Vaporization will release the THCp without combusting the plant material. This is healthier than smoking. Vaporization will also give you an entourage effect.
Lastly, THCp can be made into edibles, tinctures, or topicals. Ingesting it will give you a longer-lasting and more potent effect than smoking or vaporizing it. It is also healthier than smoking or vaporization.
You may have consumed THCp through other CBD or delta-9 products. The manufacturing process of CBD gummies or delta-9 vapes consists of a series of sensitive steps. A minor fault in a single step can result in a contaminated final product.
However, the essential step is when the experts extract CBD or THC from the pool of cannabinoids. Professionals use CBD isolate, full-spectrum, CO2 extraction, or other suitable methods. These companies are also guided by the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) regulations to make high-quality products.
However, some companies may disobey the rules, introducing an illegal amount of THC in their products. Moreover, some undetected THCp may also come along with the THC.
As a result, we recommend you only buy CBD and THC products from authentic sellers.
As THC and THCp are similar with just one structural difference, both will have the same side effects. However, as THCp affects the ECS of the human body with more reactiveness, you may see an increased severity in the side effects.
The first side effect of consuming THCp is getting high. However, it can cause a high even in lower concentrations. As there is no scientific data, we looked at customer reviews, and the majority said that taking THCp was the same as consuming weed.
Another side effect og THCp is deep sleep. People who have trouble sleeping take CBD or THC gummies to sleep peacefully. However, taking THCp without a prescription may cause a deeper sleep. The consumer may end up in the hospital.
Other possible side effects of consuming THCp include dry mouth, insomnia, fatigue, stomach ache, diarrhea, vomiting, etc.
You may notice that these side effects are the same as THC or CBD products. However, we will warn you that the symptoms may be life-threatening in the case of THCp.
As THC and THCp are analogs, this saves the THCp compound from falling under the category of illegal drugs. As However, it does not mean you can freely consume any quantity.
When it comes to drugs that have the potential for misuse, there is always some grey area in legalization. Although THCp is not mentioned in the list of illegal drugs. However, it will still be banned in states that do not allow any form of THC. Moreover, the government only allows THC derived from hemp plants, not marijuana plants.
As a result, you should always consult the legalization authorities of your state before making a purchase. Moreover, if your state allows you to carry THCp products, you should check the other states’ laws before entering the state boundary.
CBD, THC, and THCp, or any cannabinoid products, are considerably more expensive than many other products on the market. There are several reasons for this. First, these substances are still illegal in many parts of the world. This means they must be produced in certified laboratories, which drives the cost.
Second, the demand for these substances is quite high. After seeing the medical and euphoric wonders of hemp-derived products, the trend of buying is increasing. However, the supply of quality products is still relatively low. This imbalance between supply and demand drives up prices even further.
Another reason for increased prices is because a few cannabinoids like THCp are present in minute quantities. It makes the extraction method difficult and more sensitive. Moreover, reputable brands run third-party lab testing to check the quality of their products. These tests cost a hefty sum of money.
Finally, CBD, THC, and THCp products are often produced in small batches, using carefully selected materials. This dedication to quality also contributes to the high cost of these products. In short, many factors contribute to the high cost of CBD, THC, and THCp products.
Despite the expense, these substances continue to be popular among consumers looking for safe and effective ways to improve their health and well-being.
Despite the early nature of THCp in cannabis, a few companies are selling products containing this novel cannabinoid. You will find multiple online products containing THCp in vapes, oil, gummies, and pre-rolls.
You will notice that the companies do not sell THCp products in their pure form. However, it is mixed with delta-8, delta-10, MCT oil, etc.
People try many of them and say that it was their first-time experiencing taking something so strong. Moreover, a few people said new BCD users should start with a low concentration and enjoy a long-lasting experience.
A particular review caught our eye where the person wrote that his girlfriend added eight servings to her tea. It resulted in a high state that lasted for two whole days.
Customers who try flavors in the THCp products praised the taste and relaxing effect it causes. Furthermore, a few users said it was a ‘real deal’ or ‘strongest stuff they had ever used.
All these consumer reviews show that only a few are from people who used THCp for medical purposes. However, most of these show that THCp is causing high and promotes psychoactive behaviors. We can conclude that, unfortunately, with the THCp products in the market, the line between medical and nonbeneficial use is thinning.
THCp comes along a grey area of legal and illegal issues, and a particularly high dose can result in euphoria lasting for days. As a result, you should never trust any random seller online but do proper research. Consider the following features before buying THCp products from the online cannabis space.
The first thing you need to look for when purchasing THCp products is to check if the brand is reputable or not. You can only trust an authentic and reliable brand with this novel cannabinoid. The opposite can result in severe side effects that can take you to the hospital.
As there are not much scientific data on the working or uses of THCp, you must look for customer reviews. See what the common opinion of people who are regularly using THCp is. Look for possible pieces of advice from experts and start your journey with the lowest concentrations.
The best way to avoid any possible side effects of THCp or other cannabinoids is to start with low concentrations. We emphasize this point because apparently, THCp can bind with CB1 receptors with an extra thirty times tendency. It can result in both beneficial results and severe side effects. As a result, we recommend you start with 1mg or an even lower amount of THCp rather than 10mg of CBD.
You must consider those reputable brands that have trustworthy customer service. There are chances that you may buy a bundle of THCp cartilages and do not see any health benefit after using one.
In this case, reliable customer support comes handy and offers you refunds. Moreover, most cannabis companies offer discounts on first orders and a money-back guarantee. Make sure you select the option that offers both.
One of the vital factors you should look for before buying any cannabinoid is proof of third-party lab testing. All reputable companies understand the importance of testing the final CBD or THCp products to see if they are pure or not. It is necessary because even a small mistake during any process of cannabinoid manufacturing can cause contamination of the final product. Moreover, an error in the extraction method can result in component balance distortion.
To confirm if a company subjects its products to third-party testing, look for transparent lab results on the official website.
Yes. It is believed that even a low quantity of THCp can make you high. It is the only explanation because it can bind with C1 receptors much faster than other discovered cannabinoids.
Just imagine that more than 0.3% of THC can cause high than what can the same amount of THCp do. It will probably make you feel euphoric and experience psychoactive effects.
It is the main reason that we do not recommend taking THCp in any form until you hear a clear verdict from the government or medical experts.
If we talk about THC and THCp in the cannabis plant, we will see that THCp is in a minor amount of 0.1%. On the other hand, THC typically makes thirty percent of the cannabis composition. As both compounds are present in different quantities, extraction methods for both are different.
Structurally speaking, THC and THCp do not have much difference. There is just an addition of two carbon atoms on the alkyl chain of THCp. However, this minor difference does wonders in the working of both compounds.
All cannabinoids must have an alkyl chain of more than three carbon atoms. THC has five of them, which makes it an excellent component of hemp-derived products.
On the other hand, THCp contains seven carbons alkyl chain. These additional carbon atoms make it a superhouse of power that can boost the ECS of the body with much power.
The chemical nature of the alkyl chain changes with the presence of two extra carbon atoms in THCp. As a result, its tendency toward the endocannabinoid receptors increases. The researchers who developed the THCp cannabinoid did the test on human receptors.
They found that the THCp compound can react with the CB1 receptor more than thirty times with increased efficiency. It opens another chapter of cannabinoids where THCp can be a potential compound to treat multiple diseases and their symptoms.
As it is known that THCp can work thirty times faster than a normal THC compound, you may see the results must faster than you see after consuming THC products.
Suppose a THC gummy requires thirty minutes to show the results and help you sleep; a THCp vape may take only seconds. Moreover, due to the increased tendency of THCp towards CB! Receptors, you might feel the effect till longer hours.
With an early level of research on THCp, we can not confirm if the cannabinoid is safe to consume or not. Although we know it shows much more tendency to bind with the CB1 receptors of ECS, we do not have proof of benefits.
This increased tendency can theoretically result in benefits or lead to the destruction of normal body functioning. So, as long as you intake the lowest dosages initially, you may stay in a safe zone. However, if you exceed the ideal limit, you may see some severe side effects.
Furthermore, people recommend using less than 1mg daily and consider it safe. However, there is no safe limit issued by experts or the government. As a result, until the experts or government do not release a final verdict, THCp is not safe to consume.
With so many tempting THCp products on the market, people tend to try this novel cannabinoid themselves. Doing so while staying in an ideal and safe dosage may prevent health risks.
We concluded from the reviews that this cannabinoid is more potent than other compounds. Thus, starting from a minor amount would be better. The ideal dose for other cannabinoids like CBD, delta-8, and delta-9 is usually 10mg daily. People can increase the dose after seeing positive results.
The same can go for THCp but with even lower amounts initially. Try staying between 1-3mg per day. Or, to stay close to the safe side, use even less than 1mg daily. Furthermore, you can increase the dosage after a week if you see the desired results.
Cannabinoid users live under the threat of drug tests. The drug tests showing up positive while driving can become a nightmare for CBD users. Moreover, some companies even fire their workers if they find any illegal drugs.
If you are consuming THCp and want to know when it will stay in your body, you can compare it with THC analog. Somehow, the staying capacity of THC is thirty days in your body if you are a regular user and can handle high dosages. The number of days reduces if you are just a beginner and use low concentrations.
As THCp is way more potent and strong than THC, it may stay in your body for longer than a month. It can also stay for at least twenty-five to thirty days after your first use. As there is less research on staying time, we can not say anything with clarity.
As THCp is the most potent cannabinoid of the cannabis plant, it can cause euphoria. Thus, a slightly higher amount of THCp can result in an overdose of THCp.
If you or someone you know has overdosed on THCp, it is important to seek medical help immediately. The active ingredient in THCp, tetrahydrocannabinol, is a powerful psychoactive substance that can cause serious health problems. Symptoms of a THCp overdose include extreme anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations.
Suppose it was your first time using THCp, and if you only took a minor concentration,  try to stay hydrated. Showering or taking deep breaths also helps in fighting the symptoms of overdose.
On the other hand, in severe cases, an overdose can lead to coma or even death. If you believe that you or someone else has overdosed on THCp, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room immediately.
An accident in research on the cannabis plant leads the scientists toward a novel cannabinoid in the hemp plants. The team found a minor structural difference and concluded that the extra two carbons in the alkyl chain could produce higher reactivity than a normal THC compound.
They later did a test and concluded that THCp is, in fact, more than thirty times more effective and potent than THC. The discovery leads to a new era of cannabinoids that is potentially stronger than the rest of the compounds.
As THCp is more potent, it can cause a high associated with THC analogs. Moreover, it can cause side effects on a larger scale and stay in the body for a long time. Apart from this, there may be beneficial uses of THCp because of its binding capacity with ECS receptors CB1 and CB2. However, we can not say anything with surety as we lack scientific research in this field.
Being a novel cannabinoid, we do not recommend using it without the supervision of your doctor. However, if you want to buy, ensure you trust an authentic brand and use it in minute quantities initially. You can further increase the dosage if you see the desired results.
