BRIDGEWATER — Chief Christopher Delmonte reports that Bridgewater Police arrested a man on multiple drug and motor vehicle charges following a traffic stop Thursday.
DARRELL SUMPTER, AGE 62, OF HANOVER, was arrested and charged with:
On Thursday, April 7 at approximately 5 p.m., Officer James Doherty pulled over an Acura SUV on Center Street after observing an alleged marked lanes violation. Officer Doherty determined that the driver, identified as SUMPTER, had a suspended license. It was also determined that the passenger did not have a valid license.
The driver and passenger were informed that their vehicle would be towed, and were asked to exit the vehicle. While exiting the vehicle, a small glassine bag allegedly fell from SUMPTER’s jacket pocket and onto the floor of the vehicle. Upon observing the bag, Officer Doherty recognized it to contain a substance likely to be crack cocaine, and SUMPTER was placed under arrest.
During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Officer Doherty, assisted by Officer John Carr who is a member of the W.E.B Major Crimes and Drug Task Force, Sgt. John Hennessey, Detective Kevin Kearns and Department of Corrections K-9 Sgt. Robert Pino, located several other capsules of crack cocaine, multiple Adderall pills and multiple vials of liquid methadone.
The passenger was released from the scene and was not charged. SUMPTER is scheduled to be arraigned today in Brockton District Court.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
