PDEA destroys P11.8M illegal drugs in Davao – The Manila Times

DAVAO CITY: The Davao regional office of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) destroyed illegal drugs worth P11.8 million on Wednesday, March 16.
PDEA-11, in its report, said a total of 771.0722 grams of shabu worth P11,566,083 and 2,109.58 grams of marijuana worth P253,150 were burned and destroyed at the Philippine-Japan Active Carbon Corp. in Panacan, this city.
The destruction of seized illegal drugs is in pursuant to the guidelines set on Section 21 of Republic Act 9165 of the “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.”
Judge Emmanuel Carpio of the Regional Trial Court Branch 16, Davao City, and City Prosecutor Jhoppe Avanceña led the destruction of the prohibited substances turned over by authorities that were recently ordered by the court to be destroyed.
The burning of illegal drugs was also done to erase the skepticism of the public that there is a recycling of seized items by the law enforcement agencies.
PDEA-11 Director Aileen Lovitos commended the effort of the local government unit, the Philippine National Police, other law enforcement agencies, media and the community for their untiring support in the fight against illegal drugs.
“This collaborative effort of the five pillars of the criminal justice system serves as a warning to all drug perpetrators that we are working hand in hand to suppress the supply of illegal drugs in our country,” Lovitos said.
