Police: Officer Attacked By Pit Bulls During Salisbury Drug Bust, 2 Arrested – WCCB Charlotte

SALISBURY, N.C. — A months-long drug investigation ended in the arrest of two men on Thursday after officers found a large amount of illegal drugs during their search of a Salisbury home.
Police say while executing a search warrant at the home on North Main Street, two pits bulls attacked one of the entry team officers by biting the officer multiple times.
Another officer was then forced to use their service weapon and shoot one of the attacking pit bulls, which authorities say stopped the attack.
Police say the bitten officer received minor injuries and was treated at Novant Hospital.
Rowan Animal Control also responded to the scene to take custody of all the dogs located inside the home, including the one that the officer shot.
That pit bull was taken for medical treatment following the shooting and is expected to fully recover, according to a news release.

Police say two men were arrested in this case for the following charges:
Raynard Bookhart, 37, is charged with Trafficking in Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Schedule II, III and IV Controlled Substances, Possession of Marijuana, Maintaining a Dwelling for a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm.
He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $75,000 bond.
Melvin Bookhart is charged with Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver a Schedule II Controlled Substance and Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance.
He was placed in the Rowan County Detention Center under a $5,000 bond.
