New London woman convicted of two counts of first-degree reckless homicide – Post-Crescent

NEW LONDON – A 31-year-old New London woman was found guilty Thursday of first-degree reckless homicide in two 2021 drug overdose deaths.
April Hardegen pled guilty to two counts of first-degree reckless homicide, as well as two counts of child neglect as party to a crime, in Waupaca County Circuit Court.
Hardegen also was convicted of other charges, including felonies for delivery of heroin, child neglect, delivery of THC and possession with intent to deliver various other drugs.
Hardegan and Aaron Van Dyke, 31, also of New London, were taken into custody June 2, 2021, after the drug overdose deaths of a New London woman and a Waupaca County man.
Hardegen told investigators that she and Van Dyke had been trafficking illegal drugs and made numerous trips to Milwaukee to buy heroin, which they sold in Waupaca County.
Van Dyke also faces two counts of first-degree reckless homicide as party to a crime and possession of various drugs. He is scheduled to return to court for a status conference April 8.
A sentencing hearing for Hardegen is set for June 6.
