Silver Springs man arrested after MCSO deputy finds loaded gun, multiple drugs inside vehicle – Ocala News
A 39-year-old Silver Springs man was arrested after a Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy found a loaded gun, ammunition, multiple drugs, and drug paraphernalia during a traffic stop.
On Monday, the MCSO deputy observed a 1998 Dodge Ram with a cracked windshield at the intersection of NE 38th Lane and NE 173rd Court in Silver Springs.
The deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop near the 17300 block of NE 38th Lane Road. The vehicle continued westbound on NE 38th Lane Road, turned left, and drove across the yard of a local residence.
The deputy observed the vehicle as it turned left onto NE 38th Place and then turned right onto the yard of another residence. The vehicle then stopped and the driver, later identified as Joseph Aaron Grogan, stepped outside the vehicle.
Grogan was immediately detained by the deputy. He told the deputy that he wanted to pull into the yard in front of his residence because he did not have a driver’s license and he worried that his vehicle would be towed.
The deputy conducted a computer search on Grogan and confirmed that he did not have a valid driver’s license.
Grogan was arrested and a request was placed to have his vehicle towed. Prior to the arrival of the tow truck, the deputy searched the vehicle.
On the driver’s seat, the deputy found a green metal construction pipe that contained a burnt substance. Inside the center console, the deputy located a burnt glass pipe and a blue straw that contained a white powdery residue.
Behind the driver’s seat, a blue backpack was found that contained the following items:
Next to the backpack, the deputy located a loaded .380-caliber semi-automatic handgun which had 8 rounds in the magazine along with one round inside the chamber.
Grogan refused to speak with the deputy and requested his lawyer. He was transported to Marion County Jail where he is currently being held on $138,500 bond.
Grogan is facing numerous felony charges for amphetamine trafficking, drug trafficking (controlled substance), possession of several controlled substances without a prescription, possession of marijuana over 20 grams, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and displaying a weapon during a felony.
He is also facing misdemeanor charges for possession of drug paraphernalia and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
A court date has not been scheduled yet, according to jail records.
