Davidson County Sheriff's Office investigates incident where two found dead and two hospitalized – Lexington Dispatch

The Davidson County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation this week after responding to a report of an overdose of illegal drugs that left two people dead and two others hospitalized.
Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Burns said that about noon Tuesday, Feb. 15, a neighbor checked on the residents of a home on Tranquil Meadow Lane in Wallburg. That visit prompted a call to law enforcement.

When deputies arrived they executed a search warrant and found two people dead and two others suffering from an apparent drug overdose. Burns said both were taken to hospitals and that one patient has been released while the other victim is in critical condition as of Thursday. The names of the patients and deceased have not been released.
Burns said due to the circumstances of illegal drugs being involved in the incident, investigators are considering many scenarios, including whether it was a case of death by distribution.
He said at this time the incident is still under investigation and any pending charges are subsequent to autopsy results by the state medical examiner. There have not been any charges brought at this point and officials could not state whether they have any suspects in this case.
North Carolina House Bill 474 came into effect in 2019 and imposes harsher penalties for those who supply drugs that lead to an overdose death.  The criminal charge is similar to voluntary manslaughter or second-degree murder, but does not require prosecutors to prove intent to kill or malice.
