Delhi police arrested an interstate illegal ganja supplier with 305 kilograms of contraband worth Rs 2 crore. The accused, identified as Shyam Sunder, used to procure illegal drugs from Odisha and supplied them to Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Police also confiscated a container which was used for the transportation of illegal ganja from Odisha to other parts of the country.
In a bid to reduce the rising drug abuse in the city, police officials from Dwarka launched a special operation ‘Varchasv’. Various police teams were deployed and sources were sensitised to nab the drug peddlers.
Three days back, police received some specific intelligence inputs about drug peddlers supplying illegal ganja in Najafgarh. Police said on the intervening night of February 12 and 13, a trap was laid and police intercepted a truck near Gas Godam. The arrested man confessed to his involvement in the supply of illegal contraband.
Upon further interrogation, he disclosed that he and his associates modified the cavity in the cabin of the truck to conceal the illegal ganja during transportation.
Police raided the vehicle and seized 61 packets of ganja from the truck’s specially designed cavities, weighing 305 kgs. The accused was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS).
Sunder met another drug peddler, Wasim, a few months ago and started supplying ganja to make money. He said that they used Wasim’s truck for transporting illegal Ganja from Burahanpur Odisha to Delhi NCR, Haryana and UP.
